About Us
Bettina … a “sheltered” private school princess was born and raised on the west side of Vancouver. Bettina grew up going to Catholic private school and then on to the University of British Columbia (UBC), including a semester abroad in Vienna, Austria. Since shortly after graduating with her BCom, Bettina has worked at Crystal Decisions which became Business Objects which has now become SAP, and it would be at work where she would meet Allan. Bettina now lives, works, and breathes Yaletown (just as she always dreamed she would!). Between traveling for work and traveling to meet up with Allan – Bettina is always on the go and has half her suitcase packed at all times!
Allan … a west coast public school thug was born in a rough neighborhood south of San Francisco. Allan worked his way through college Dj’ing and doing multiple jobs to pay for tuition, books, and living expenses. He worked at PeopleSoft as a consultant soon after graduating from Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo. Allan has worked in many cities in the US and Europe over the years. He currently lives in Las Vegas, is now self-employed and still DJs. Allan met Bettina at Business Objects while both were working on the same project. Allan has recently taken up photography and takes pictures of his favorite subject … Bettina, of course! (edited for grammer by Bettina)
Bettina + Allan
While they hailed from very different upbringings (not to mention different countries!) and could not be more different personality wise (Bettina is loud, demanding, and a total organized planner. Allan is reserve, easy going, and just rolls with it.) … they could not be better suited for each other. Allan gives Bettina perspective. Bettina keeps Allan organized. Allan keeps Bettina in check. Bettina makes sure Allan makes all his appointments!
What they do share is a love for family, friends, steak, good wine, travel and So You Think You Can Dance!
How We Met … A Cornerstone Union. Back in the Spring of 2006, Allan joined, as a consultant, a project already underway at Business Objects, fondly referred to as “Cornerstone”. While Cornerstone had its many challenges … the one thing it did not lack was fun-loving people. To cope with the late nights and insane work demands, the project team went out … A LOT. YBC martini nights, dancing at the Cellar, steak’n frites at Library Square … so a Cornerstone Union was BOUND to happen! (In fact there is atleast one other we know of aside from ourselves! Yeah Nate & Stacey!)
According to Bettina:
I was first introduced to Allan, by our friend Kendrick (who was also on the project), at The Sandbar on Granville Island, on one of the project’s traditional nights out. I thought he JUST joined the project but apparently he had been on for a couple months already and knew who I was! As we were making small talk, I could TOTALLY tell he was digging on me. But I wasn’t really interested - I was having too much fun being single at the time! We became friends and Allan became part of our regular party crew. That fall we decided to date (after much careful thought about whether or not we wanted to risk our friendship in case it did not work …because it’s me and I overthink everything!) and well … the rest is history.
According to Allan:
Bettina had a big crush on me, but to this day still won’t admit it. She was captivated by my good looks and charm. Just kidding. One evening after two bottles of Chardonnay I decided to make the big move and kiss her with which she replied “I don’t think that we should have done that…”. After several attempts she finally succumbed, I guess it was my perspiration, um I mean persistence that worked. The rest is well…sweat, uh I mean sweet.
